The 288 GTO was Ferrari's Supercar of the 1980's. The car featured an all composite body, 2.8 litre truly mid-engine mounted, 50/50 weight distributed, twin-turbo, fuel-injected V-8 rated at 400 bhp. The car has a curb weight of about 2,600 pounds. With only 273 copies world-wide and about 60 making their way to US shores, the original $84,000 retail price escalated to over $1,000,000 by the end of the decade. Currently, a pristine car is considerably less. Only about 30 of the cars remain in the states today. The car pictured here shows about 2,400 original miles and is driven periodically to keep it in top form. |
